Circular Signage Improves Communication and Overall Customer Experience

Mission Viejo, Calif. (Aug 19, 2005) - The newly opened gaming center Howie’s Game Shack in Mission Viejo, Calif. installs a DS2012 digital signage system in its 12,500 square-foot facility. Located at the Kaleidoscope Mall, Howie’s is a one-of-a-kind gaming facility that offers gamers a fun and entertaining atmosphere. From the high-tech urban décor, the 225 PCs and 30 Xboxes, the cozy surround-sound chairs, to live DJs with non-stop music and the gourmet foods and beverages, the facility aims at creating a comfortable and enjoyable environment for families and friends.

“Our focus is on providing a fun, safe and clean atmosphere to play games and compete on a local level,” says Owner Howard (Howie) Makler. “We also believe in providing affordable entertainment and a family-friendly environment including no inappropriate games.” The giant circular LED screen is installed 30 feet from the main entrance, directly in the line of sight. A Macintosh G5 feeds the giant 100-inch circular screen with continual 15-minute loops of game trailers, information on special events and promotions, food menus, game statistics and announcements. The screen’s split-image ability allows for displaying three different or duplicated contents simultaneously. Makler explains that the reasons for using the circular screen are not only because of its high-tech appeal, but it is the only communication tool that can effectively deliver targeted messages. “The circular screen is the only effective way to communicate with 100% of the people within our facility at once. The screen allows us to display game trailers, game scores and other game data of interest to our gamers, and to provide information about upcoming events and game leagues.”

Howie’s is the first to use circular digital signage for gaming-related applications in Mission Viejo, according to Alan Kaufman, vice president of sales of DynaScan Technology, Inc. The company currently has over 300 installations worldwide, in locations such as airports, train stations, shopping centers, corporate lobbies, museums, public space, parking lots, and many more. Some recent installations include Disney Epcot Center and Universal CityWalk in Orlando, Fla., as well as retail stores and corporate lobbies.
